I feel that prehaps the legging has lasted so long within the fashion industry as a 'generic' garment is highly due to the freedom of movement it creates. Again this idea of a 'second skin' is present, as you a mearly laying the body with fabric is immpetate the existing shape.
Below is a dance routine taken from the show So You Think You Can Dance. We can see Kherington Payne and Stephen 'tWitch' Boss (aka. Twitchington) dance a Krump routine choreographed by Lil' C, to '2 Buck 4 TV' by Tha J-Squad. Throughout this routine we are able to see Kheringtom krumping with ease wearing a pair of leggings. I find this interesting costume choice as they don’t quite match up with the style of the dance. The whole idea behind krumping was about the release of anger and aggression in a non violent manner, so the dance form iteself is of an aggressive nature. Usually clothing of a looser fit is worn, often layered in order to create a larger size of the body itself in turn producing an intimidating figure. By Kherington wearing the leggings I feel that a less intimidating stance is extended from her, by her only wearing this 'second skin' instead of a garment that creates a larger form of the body.
